Sir Elton John wrote Candle in the Wind in 1973 as a tribute to Marilyn Monroe, the beautiful, talented actress of the 1950’s who died in 1962. In 1997 he remade the song for the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales.
The song popped into my head when I heard the news from London of Amy Winehouse’s death. The talented, British singer was 27.
Her young life was the love of tabloid journalism and the paparazzi. The troubled yet gifted young woman was in many like so many on this planet traversing the cosmos.
Many will not reach the level of fame or fortune that Miss Winehouse did, but they still struggle with daily life, the fortune and misfortune of existence. Happiness eludes them.
Miss Winehouse’s life has ended on this world, but the speculation and commentary on her 27 years will continue for decades to come. The tragedy of one dying so young is that the years of potential life give rise to wonderment to what could have been.
There are a number of unsavory comments about Miss Winehouse popping up over the internet. It does not take any degree of intelligence to make a comment. Ignorance is rampant in our society with its air of self-righteousness.
Alcoholism is a disease as well as drug addiction. The two seem to go hand in hand. My mother was an alcoholic, and her self-destructive behaviour resulted in misery and pain for her herself, her family and her friends.
Miss Winehouse was a fellow human being, a daughter, a sister, a fellow traveller on the road of life. Now, her life is ended, and her pain is gone.
Truly, she was a candle in the wind. May she RIP since she could not find it on this earth.

Friends of the singer had reportedly voiced fears that she was drinking herself to death, according to the Sun. They said: “Her drinking is totally out of control. Amy is constantly out of control on vodka.
“She is rattling about at home in north London drinking herself into oblivion. Three times this week she has been so drunk she passed out.”

At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained.”

Born in 1983 to taxi driver Mitch Winehouse and his pharmacist wife Janis, Winehouse grew up in the north London suburbs, and was set on a showbiz career from an early age.
