Hill And Coulson: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

One of the bright stars on the network television schedule for Fall 2013 is ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division).  Agent Phil Coulson will lead a talented team of veterans and newcomers in exploring our world and those realities behind the veil.

As some know, Agent Coulson died in Marvel’s THE AVENGERS at the hand of Loki, Thor’s brother.  His resurrection will be one of the mysteries of the television series.

What can one expect from this Joss Whedon vehicle and its 22 episodes? I assume there will be cameos by Thor and Captain America as well as Iron Man.  The big boss man Nick Furry will be checking in on his main agent Coulson.

As rumored, Agent Maria Hill will be in the pilot and possibly in other episodes during the year. She is one intelligent and brave asset of   S.H.I.E.L.D.

Coulson’s Agents will be Melinda May, Skye, Leo Fitz, Grant Ward, and Jemma Simmons.  Each one is talented and has their specialty.

Since this is a Joss Whedon vehicle, one would expect to see some familiar faces from his brilliant Firefly series gracing the screen.  The potential for a megahit is all here with a stellar cast and rich cameos by the big heroes.

Upcoming Marvel films:

Thor: The Dark World—November 8, 2013

Captain America: The Winter Soldier— April 4, 2014.

As I have written before, I was not a Marvel fan growing up. I bought a few Fantastic Four comic books and watched Spider Man on television—both the actual series and cartoons.  Never really got into The Incredible Hulk on television.

I was a die-hard DC fan.  And as I have written before, DC and Warner Brothers allowed Marvel to race around the track several times before they came up to the gate.

Superman Returns, The Watchmen, and The Green Lantern were disappointments.  The Man of Steel changed the mythos of the Superman.  It was a good action movie, but not the Superman that I appreciated growing up.

But enough musings of bad executive decisions and limited vision at DC and Warner Brothers.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D premieres on September 24th.  ABC is hoping to regain its network leadership and fans and the curious are eagerly anticipating a great show.
