Senseless violence against the innocents of society…

What can one say about what happened this morning at Sandy Hook Elementary School?  Words are inadequate to express the disbelief and horror.

Children are the true innocents of society.  When they are subjected to violence, especially cold-bloodied murder, our sense of reality is shattered like a rock tossed through a stained-glass window of the community church.

It does not make sense.  It should not be.  This cannot be happening, especially to children who were counting down to the school holiday, to Christmas, the most joyful time of the year.

For the parents who were told their precious little ones who they sent or dropped at school this morning will not be returning home tonight is beyond any mortal words or thoughts.  One cannot imagine what these parents will go through this weekend and especially during the holidays without their little ones unless you have lost a child.

Christmas presents under the tree will remain unwrapped on Christmas morning by little hands and eager faces that grace this earth no more. If time could be reversed, then the only Christmas present these grieving and suffering men and women would want on Christmas morning would be to see the smiling face of their child.

Let us in our own way remember and pray for the families of the children, teachers and staff murdered this morning at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The families must continue to live without their precious members.

Hug your children each day and take time to be part of their lives because we live in a world where life can be taken away in a few moments.  Life is so precious and fragile, especially for children.

U.S. President Barack Obama made an emotion-filled statement to the shocked country Friday afternoon.

We’ve endured too many of these tragedies in the last few years . . . I react not as the president, but as anyone else would — as a parent,” he said. The president teared up, at times using an index finger to wipe at the corner of his eyes, as he addressed the nation from the White House. He also paused repeatedly as he struggled to keep his composure while speaking of the children who had died and the life milestones they now would miss.

“The majority of those who died today were children, beautiful little kids between the ages of five and 10 years old.” The president then paused, holding back tears that came anyway. “They had their entire lives ahead of them.”

“Our hearts are broken today.”
