Oscar Nostalgia

As we count down to the Academy Awards tonight, let’s take a look back at some nostalgia.  Nostalgia is a way to savour some delicious moments, captured forever in still frame and video.

Cher is always one to watch at the Oscars.  Her outfits have entertained with shock and awe and amusement for decades.  You have to love that 1988 dress.

Some people said that John Wayne did not deserve that Oscar for True Grit, but the legendary screen actor and rugged American patriot was every ounce a winner that night.  It meant a lot to him as you can see from his acceptance speech.

Now, tonight, another long time actor from a famous acting family, Jeff Bridges, is nominated for the same role in a stirring remake of True Grit.  All the best to Mr. Bridges.

David Niven, the ever London Gentleman, maintained his cool when the Streaker, Robert Ope,ran across the stage. Mr. Niven won the Oscar for Best Actor in Separate Tables in 1959.

“ As British actor David Niven began to introduce presenter Elizabeth Taylor in 1974, Robert Opel, who ran a male-erotic-art studio, ran naked across the stage. “Probably the only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings,” Mr. Niven quipped. Opel was murdered July 7, 1979, during a robbery of his studio.”
