November is an exciting month. National holidays, especially Remembrance Day in Europe and Veterans Day in the USA on November 11, take a moment to remember those who have served their countries and in many cases with the ultimate sacrifice.
On November 17 the Leonids Shower gives a night display at its peak of showering. In Scotland November 30 is St Andrews Day.
November is Native American Heritage Month. To honor the first Americans is appropriate for this month.
Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday. What would New York City be without the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade? Of course watching MIRACLE ON 34th Street the 1947 version is a holiday tradition since Macy is featured at the core of the film. Football is another holiday tradition. For dog lovers there is the National Dog Show.
Of course, in the predawn hours of the next day (Black Friday) millions of Americans will brave the elements to stand in lines to grab the limited bargains that stores use to lure the overfed shoppers to spend their money or use their plastic on the must-have merchandise. From a non-terrestrial viewpoint this would be an interesting psychological study of the American psyche.
November in many ways is the countdown to Christmas celebrations.
December and Christmas are yet to come.
Let’s all enjoy this November. Be thankful. Appreciate life.
